Massac County is a county located in the state of Illinois, USA. As of 2000, the population was 15,161. Its county seat is Metropolis.
History
Massac County was organized in 1843. The County was named for Fort Massac, which was built by the French in 1757, during the French and Indian War. The Fort was itself named in 1759, in honor of Claud Louis d'Espinchal, Marquis de Massiac, the French Naval Minister. Massiac is a place in France.
